The modern spa of the 20th century became known the day spa, a place to visit during the day for numerous spa treatments. Spending a few hours at a day spa became a time to escape, to feel good and be healthy and beautiful. Spas are good for a variety of reasons. They offer relaxation, stress relief, skincare, body care treatments, and overall wellness. The most common spa treatments are massages, manicures/pedicures and facials. However, you might also see offered such treatments as a body scrub/exfoliation, a fingers or toes file & polish (like a mini manicure or pedicure) or a scalp massage.
What do I wear to a spa day?
Most spas want you to be comfortable and relaxed, so arrive wearing loose, comfortable clothing like gym clothes, yoga pants and t-shirts. Once you are changed, you’ll be spending most of your time in a robe anyway! What should I wear to a massage session? Anything that is comfortable goes! Clothing that is easy to take off, such as sweats are highly recommended. But don’t worry if you happen to wear a three piece suit — we will leave you plenty of time to get undressed.Think along the lines of yoga pants, soft t-shirts, or breathable dresses. These types of outfits are easy to slip in and out of and won’t leave marks on your skin that could distract from the massage experience. Avoid tight jeans or restrictive clothing, as you want to feel relaxed even before the massage begins.I usually recommend wearing a t-shirt and yoga pants/sweatpants/shorts. It’s common to be barefoot during the session, but if you prefer socks, you’re free to leave socks on, or I have some for you to borrow if your feet get cold. As a general rule of thumb, many people tip around 15-20% of what the massage service costs. The therapist is serving only you, and expects to make enough money to make a living doing massages. So the biggest cost of the service is the human time that the therapist invests into you, which is the reason spa services will seem expensive if you compare to discretionary spendings such as restaurants and cinema. The standard hospitality rate for massage tipping is 20 percent.
