Why are restaurants called brasserie?
The word ‘brasserie’ originally comes from French and literally means ‘brewery’. Historically, brasseries originated in France in the 19th century as places where beer was brewed and served along with a simple, hearty meal. Brasserie and Bistro(t) are French word and alike. Brasserie means a larger operation with a more diverse offer in price and food and wider opening hours.
