Who lived in Stobo Castle?
The Murray family resided at the principle farm, Hillhouse, where the castle now stands. The names Stobo and Hillhouse seem to be interchangeable, as during the 18th century the property appears on maps variously as Hillhouse, Stobo and Stobo House. Stobo Castle is the seat of the barony of Stobo, a feudal lordship that was created in 1577 with origins dating back to the twelfth century. In 1650 (together with Dawyck House) Stobo estate was the first in Scotland to introduce the non-native species of horse chestnut.Stobo Castle was constructed between 1805 and 1811 in a castellated style. In 1849, the porte-cochère was added by Sir Graham Graham-Montgomery, 3rd Baronet, to a design by John Lessels.

In the evening, the atmosphere remains relaxed, however guests are asked to dress in a smart/casual manner.
Does Stobo Castle have triple rooms?
Accommodation is available in two spacious triple rooms, each with two double beds and one single bed and three twin-bedded rooms, each with two double beds, and all with en-suite bathrooms. Simply put, a triple room is a room that can accommodate up to three people. Often ranging between 18 and 24 square meters, this type of room can be equipped with three single beds measuring 85 x 200 cm or one double bed for two people and a single bed for one person.So, can three people sleep in a king-size bed? Yes, in a pinch, but it’s far from spacious. A heavy duty king divan bed with mattress could help, offering strength and support.
