Which room is best at The Witchery?
The Old Rectory or The Turret are in my opinion the best rooms. They are within the original Witchery building. All the others apart from The Inner Sanctum are across the Royal Mile in Jollies Close. To me those rooms don’t feel like you’re staying at The Witchery somehow. It is said to be haunted by one of the thousand people who were burned for witchcraft on Castlehill in 15th and 16th centuries. The eight bedroom suites are furnished in a Gothic style with oak panelling, tapestries and antique features.The Old Rectory or The Turret are in my opinion the best rooms. The Witchery’s indulgent owner, James Thomson, is Scotland’s best-known restauranteur and hotelier, recently adding the national accolade of Restauranteur of the Year to his many other awards which include an OBE for services to hospitality and Scottish Tourism. The historic heart of Edinburgh’s old town Few restaurants in the world date back as far as the phenomenal medieval buildings housing The Witchery. So, in truth, our history extends back further than 1979 when restauranteur James Thomson brought his imaginative concept to life.
