What is Seaham Hall famous for?
Built in the 17th century, the Hall has a colourful history being the venue for the wedding of the romantic poet Lord Byron to Lady Annabella Milburn. Following a £20m transformation it is now tastefully restored and transformed into a luxury hotel and spa of considerable grandeur. In 1815 the famed poet Lord Byron (1770-1845) was married at Seaham and resided at this hall, his bride being Lady Ann Isabella Milbanke whose father was the owner. The marriage was not a happy one and the unfortunate bride was later ridiculed in one of Byron’s poems as ‘Lady Millpond’.
