Do you have to take off your clothes in a spa?
Do feel free to ask what you should take off and leave on, as Spas can vary in their policies. Generally if they provide a Robe, it’s safe to say they expect you to disrobe. If you’re concerned about what to wear under the robe, don’t be. Most people are nude under those spa robes, but it’s perfectly O. K. Many spas also offer disposable underwear just for that purpose. You can ask for a pair when you’re shown to the locker room.In general, you should wear swimwear or underwear underneath a robe. You may well spend much of your day switching between the swimming pool, jacuzzi or steam room, so it makes sense to have your swimwear already on.For private hot tubs, wear comfortable and functional swimwear of your choice. Public and communal spas often require swimwear that aligns with hygiene guidelines—this means no non-swimwear clothing or heavily decorated garments.Appropriate swimwear and/or coverups are required. Shorts and flip flops are permitted. Undergarments may not be used as sunbathing/swim attire. No see-through, risqué or indecent clothing or swimwear.
Do you take your bra off at the spa?
For a facial, take off your bra (or at least lower the straps) before you slip into a robe, so it doesn’t interfere with the neck and shoulder massage. For a full-body massage, you can opt to keep your pants on or go completely in the buff.You should never be expected to be fully nude for a massage. Depending on the type of massage you are receiving, you may be asked to take off some of your clothing. However, you will always be given the choice of what you would like to keep on and what you would like to remove.
What do you wear to a couples spa day?
It’s best to wear loose-fitting, dark clothes to the spa, as you might be covered in oils and creams when leaving. Most spas will provide you with a robe, towel, disposable underwear, and slippers or slops – however, they should communicate any clothing that you need to bring with you such as swimwear. The rule of thumb is to keep it light and breathable. Natural fibers like cotton are often recommended. For example, a lightweight cotton t-shirt or a pair of shorts can be ideal. Sauna apparel like loose-fitting, breathable swimwear is also acceptable, particularly in public saunas where nudity isn’t an option.
Do you wear undergarments at a spa?
Many spas will give you the choice between wearing your own underwear, paper knickers, or nothing. Your therapist will tell you what’s expected. The important thing to remember, though, is that you don’t have to expose any bit of you that you’re not comfortable exposing. Although most spas recommend you strip-down for your treatment to increase the comfort factor, it is not mandatory. Every spa should offer you a robe and slippers upon your arrival, so how you choose to lay under the covers is entirely up to you. Tipping is discretionary not obligatory.
