What do marigolds symbolize in Christianity?

In Christian symbolism, marigold flowers are often associated with the Virgin Mary. The golden hue of the flower is linked to the Mary’s Gold legend, which tells the story of Mary offering her golden coins to the poor. Consequently, marigolds are used to honor Mary during various religious events and celebrations. Marigolds, or flowers in general, also represent the fragility of life. The marigold most commonly used in Dia de los Muertos celebrations is the Targetes erecta, Mexican marigold or Aztec marigold, otherwise known as cempasuchitl or flower of the dead.
