What does NYX stand for?
Meaning:Night. Lovers of Greek mythology may adore the mystical name Nyx, a gender-neutral title borne by the revered Greek goddess and personification of night. Nyx is the goddess of women who become productive primarily at night or out of the greatest chaos. She was generally considered one of the mysterious primordial gods. Together with her husband Erebus she inhabited the dark corners of the underworld.Nyx’s cabin is simple with a dark roof, dark walls, and Calla lily and Queen of Night tulips surrounding the cabin. Inside, the ceiling is pitched black with an illusion of the night sky shimmering above. The other rooms resemble the Mansion of Night, or whatever the demi-god feels safest in.
Where did Nyx come from?
In Hesiod’s Theogony (late 8th century BC), which the Greeks considered the standard account of the origin of the gods, Nyx is one of the earliest beings to exist, as the offspring of Chaos alongside Erebus (Darkness); in the first sexual coupling, she and Erebus produce their personified opposites, Aether and Hemera . Hesiod attached negative descriptors to Nyx like deadly Night and evil Night, but the ancient goddess was also the mother of more positive offspring like Hypnos (Sleep), the Oneiroi (Dreams), Geras (Old Age), Thanatos (Peaceful Death) and Philotes, which could mean either Friendship or Sex.
