These walkable medieval fortifications surround the old town and offer fantastic views of rooftops, towers, and green space. York is a very walkable city with all the popular attractions in close proximity, a stroll down the cobbled streets, a wander down the river and a walk around the Ings makes for a really enjoyable experience.In general police, security staff and Street Angels do an excellent job in York and are always very visible. The city centre is very well lit. Though you will see anti-social behaviour (this will always be the case it night time economies) I never feel unsafe in York.
