The Barbican Centre includes theatres, galleries, concert halls and cinemas, plus a large conservatory with over 1,500 species of plants and trees, a library, restaurants, bars, a shop and a picturesque lakeside oasis.The Barbican estate was built like a castle, with castle walls; and that seems actually to deter the nastier elements of the outside world. You can walk round the Barbican Estate late at night and feel safe.
