Is the York Railway museum worth visiting?
The Railway Museum is not only one of the best things to do in York; it also happens to be free to enter (aside from Wonderlab, which does have a charge). Donations would be welcome, of course, but there’s no obligation. York is England’s finest example of a medieval town, so well preserved that it has become one of the world’s most interesting historic cities, with a rich mix of activities for the visitor. York is a walker’s paradise with endless fascinating sights packed into a small area of one square mile.Getting around York York is not large and it’s best to get around by foot. I did nearly 30k steps in my 29 hours in the city! We stayed overnight at the Moxy hotel on the other side of the city from the station, and a cab ride was only £5 when we didn’t want to make the 20 minute walk back with the suitcase.I’ve done York as a day trip and it works fine. I had time to see most of the main sights. I didn’t see the railway museum, but it wasn’t that high on my list of things to see anyway. I also didn’t go to the Viking Musuem on that trip, but I can’t remember if that was lack of time or because it seemed too touristy.York Hop-On Hop-Off Bus. Is York Railway Museum free entry?
Museum admission is free and you can save time on arrival by booking in advance. We recommend you book tickets online, particularly during busy periods. Walk-up entry is available each day for those who arrive without advance bookings. Entry to our permanent collection display, ‘Designer Maker User’, is free and you don’t need to book a ticket. Is The Shambles in York worth visiting?
Shambles is one of York’s most famous landmarks and one of the best-preserved medieval shopping streets in Europe. If there’s one place you must visit on your trip to York, it’s the famous Shambles. It’s a street steeped in history that parents will love, but there are also plenty of magical reasons that children will adore it too.Is York expensive? It is if you stay in the top hotels, visit every attraction in the city and eat out three times a day at the most expensive restaurants! I think a trip to York doesn’t have to blow the budget.
