Food and spa facilities are excellent, Castle grounds are stunning, and every single member of staff was focussed on making our stay as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. Scotland’s only residential destination spa, the renowned Stobo Castle in Peeblesshire, is celebrating 40 years of pampering the nation this month. Reborn from a derelict castle in the heart of the Borders, the luxurious five-star spa resort began as a health farm in 1978.
How many rooms does Stobo Castle have?
Castle Lodge is a 200 yard outside walk from the main castle, sleeping a maximum of 24 in 8 twin rooms and 4 double rooms. Please note there is no private lounge in Castle Lodge. Accommodation at Ford Castle. Not many people can claim to have slept in a castle! Cosy accommodation is provided through comfortable dormitory style rooms – either in the main castle building, or in the castle courtyard.
What is Stobo Castle famous for?
Stobo Castle is the seat of the barony of Stobo, a feudal lordship that was created in 1577 with origins dating back to the twelfth century. In 1650 (together with Dawyck House) Stobo estate was the first in Scotland to introduce the non-native species of horse chestnut. Stobo Castle was constructed between 1805 and 1811 in a castellated style. In 1849, the porte-cochère was added by Sir Graham Graham-Montgomery, 3rd Baronet, to a design by John Lessels.
