Is Keswick a good place to stay in Lake District?
If you want to be at the heart of it all you’ll likely want to base yourself in Keswick, I would say this is one of the best area to stay in the Lake District. Here you’ll find tons of restaurants, pubs, shops & all that you could want. How many days do I need in the Lake District? Great for a weekend break. Focus on one area like Ambleside & Grasmere or Keswick & Derwentwater and enjoy a couple of short walks (such as my favourite Elterwater to Chesters), a good pub or two, and some scenic drives.

Keswick is a charming market town just off the northern shore of spectacular Derwentwater, in the sometimes overlooked northern Lake District. The Keswick outdoor market takes place in the Market Square every Thursday and Saturday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

Keswick is famous for its location, which is surrounded by incredible Lake District scenery including mountains and the beautiful lake of Derwentwater. It’s known as the adventure capital of the UK because of its easy access to a range of outdoor activities including kayaking, hiking, ghyll scrambling, and cycyling. Rosthwaite, Stonethwaite and Seatoller are attractive villages at the head of the valley. The Newlands Valley is easily accessible from Keswick separated from Derwentwater by a single range of hills. The nearby villages of Portinscale and Braithwaite make excellent bases for your holiday.
Is Keswick or Windermere better?

Windermere is more developed for tourism and has a large selection of accommodation, in particular at the luxury end of the market. Which is Better, Keswick or Windermere? Windermere is the more touristy of the two towns with lots of day trippers arriving by coach. Keswick is known for mountain scenery and walks that are easily accessible from the town.
