Does Missoma use real pearls?
Pearls. We use cultured freshwater pearls in a number of different shapes. Missoma pearls are naturally unique in their irregularity; imperfections are here to be celebrated. After the pearls are extracted from the oysters, one-third of oysters are “recycled” and put through the culturing process again. The others are killed and discarded. For those concerned about the environment, there is another reason to avoid pearls.

Does Missoma jewelry tarnish?
Yes, 18ct gold vermeil and 18ct gold-plated jewellery can tarnish over time if not properly cared for. Exposure to chemicals like perfumes, lotions, and deodorants can contribute to this. The Disadvantages of Wearing Sterling Silver Every Day Sterling silver is a softer metal than gold or platinum. This means that it is more susceptible to scratches and dents. Sterling silver is a reactive metal. This means that it can react with certain chemicals in the environment, which can cause it to tarnish. This is because gold is hypoallergenic, resistant to tarnish, and gentle on the skin, which means there’s a reduced chance of irritation or allergic reactions. For a more affordable option, sterling silver and surgical stainless steel are also good choices, offering hypoallergenic properties and durability.
