Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire are so different from one another that I think they both can exist without one being considered better than the other. Gene’s dancing was more athletic and focused more on tap; whereas Fred’s was more graceful and was almost more ballroom like.The funny thing about Fred Astaire, his sister was his BEST dance partner. But when they auditioned for Hollywood, he was told they wanted HIM not her. He declined.
