Are York museums free?

Is one day enough in York?
I’ve done York as a day trip and it works fine. I had time to see most of the main sights. I didn’t see the railway museum, but it wasn’t that high on my list of things to see anyway. I’ve made many trips to York over the years but there are still places I want to see. You can hit the highlights in a day (two nights) but 3 nights is more realistic as there is so much to do and see in the City.Staff were friendly and helpful and the whole museum is well laid out with great items and displays from years gone by. If you like history then definitely go at least once, you’ll really enjoy it! I would have no problem going back again if I’m in or near York.Although we’d always recommend staying longer if you can (or even moving to York permanently – the city was named the Best Place to Live by The Sunday Times, after all! York with kids in just a weekend or short trip.Three days is about right for a leisurely trip to York, and certainly enough time to see the major sights in the city such as the minster, National Railway Museum, castle, and Jorvik.It’s a unique York experience, and a must if you’re visiting the city or just if you live here and want to do something fun after school!
Is York worth visiting?
York is a fantastic historic city to visit in the north of England. On our recent visit, we stayed for just over 24 hours; however, I’ve visited a few times before. It’s a beautiful place with a rich history and also has some great options for food, including roast dinners with the local favourite Yorkshire pudding. Can you visit York Minster for free?
Admission is free for York Residents, University of York students and York St John University students. Please bring with you a proof of address (such as a York Card or utility bill) or university ID. York Pass holders can access the cathedral upon presentation of their York Pass to our admission team.
