What does Ali boom Ba Yay mean?
Background. When Muhammad Ali faced George Foreman in 1974’s Rumble in the Jungle, Congolese (Zairian at the time) audience members cheered Ali by shouting, Ali boma ye! Ali, kill him! Lingala. Bomaye’ means ‘kill him’ in Lingala, and fans across Zaire chanted this during the Rumble in the Jungle because of what Ali’s victory symbolised for Africa.
