What is a cowash shampoo?
Cowashing is using conditioner to wash the hair instead of shampoo. Some people find cowashing helps ease hair dryness and reduce breakage. However, it can also lead to oily residue buildup. Individuals can manage this by using a clarifying shampoo occasionally to remove buildup. Dandruff may have several causes, including: Irritated, oily skin. Dry skin. A yeastlike fungus (malassezia) that feeds on oils on the scalps of most adults. For mild dandruff, first try regular cleansing with a gentle shampoo to reduce oil and skin cell buildup. If that doesn’t help, try a medicated dandruff shampoo. Some people can tolerate using a medicated shampoo two to three times a week, with regular shampooing on other days if needed.Treatment for oily hair depends on what’s causing it. Switching to a sulfate-free shampoo and avoiding heavy styling products can prevent buildup. Using a clarifying shampoo weekly and taking the time to rinse thoroughly can also make a big difference. When the glands become overactive, they can create a condition called seborrhea – more commonly known as oily scalp. Sebum is necessary for a healthy scalp and skin, but when you have too much of it, the oil builds up and causes greasy hair and dandruff. Excess sebum production is also the culprit in acne.

You can co-wash as often as you like, whether that’s two times a week, or everyday.
