Beaverbrook created the most successful newspaper empire of his day and, in World War II, as minister of aircraft production, was greatly responsible for the victory in the Battle of Britain. After the war, Beaverbrook was one of Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s chief advisers. As wartime Minister of Aircraft Production, Beaverbrook famously trebled the production of Spitfires, enabling Britain to snatch victory from the jaws of certain defeat in the pivotal Battle of Britain.
