In order to see the best that California has to offer, I would recommend a minimum of two weeks to really experience the highlights without feeling rushed on your California trip. If possible, adding in more days is always beneficial and would allow you to take things a little slower. With a geographic area comparable to Sweden, California is a big place. If you fancy a bit of everything on a first-time visit to California, dedicating two to three weeks to the adventure will check off many of the most famous highlights.
