What happens at a Korean day spa?

A Korean spa, also known as a jjimjilbang, offers a unique blend of traditional Korean treatments aimed at relaxation and revitalization.At your specific gender level, additional towels, bathrobe, and shorts will be given. You will then put everything away in your locker and change into the shirt and short provided. To enter the spa and sauna on the gender-segregated floors, we ask that no clothing be worn. Bathing suits are not allowed in the spas.Korean spas typically have separate areas for men and women, where visitors must remove all clothing and shoes before entering the bathing areas.
What are the unspoken rules of a Korean spa?
If you’re going to the baths, you need to remove all your clothing, bringing only a small towel and toiletries with you (wear your locker key on your wrist). If you’re going to the sauna, change into the pajamas provided. The cardinal rule here is that you need to wash before getting into the baths. For sanitary purposes, we ask that all guests who want to use our facility to wear the uniform we provide (cotton t-shirts & cotton shorts), this includes wearing them in the dry saunas as well. They are washed with fragrance free and gentle detergent.
Are Korean spas hygienic?
Complimentary body wash, shampoo and conditioner are provided, so scrub up before hitting the baths. In korean spa culture, they take their hygiene and cleanliness very seriously. If you put on a bathing suit you’ll stand out, that is if you are even allowed in at all. In case this is all making you nervous, the bathing areas of korean spas are segregated by gender. The communal areas, however, which often include some hot rooms, are co-ed.
Do you tip at Korean spa?
In beauty salons, spas, or massage parlors, tipping is not expected. Prices already include the cost of service.
