On 9/11, a total of 79 employees of Windows on the World died when the restaurant, located on the 107th floor of the North Tower, was struck by a hijacked plane. The restaurants opened on April 19, 1976, and were destroyed in the September 11 attacks. All of the staff members who were present in the restaurant on the day of the attacks perished; the plane’s impact severed all means of escape from the 92nd floor up.
